Most people don't really understand what the phrase “Low hanging fruit” and what it really means. For me, I completely understood it, but it was the numbers that weren't impressive.
I want to show you exactly what Low Hanging Fruit is and why most people would rather not deal with them.
What is Low Hanging Fruit?
In the online world, it is nothing more than a key phrase (keyword), that doesn't get much attention. Low monthly searches with no one writing about it.
You won't be getting thousands of people looking for these “phrases”, which means the competition is also low.
This WILL Add up
For most of you, the numbers will not impress you. I mean, 200 searches a month? That's like nothing and won't make me rich.
That right there my friend, is why most people fail at online marketing. The dollar signs are all they see, and they forget that there is no way around this.
When people start off, they immediately want traffic. They want that instant gratification, so they can get motivated and scale their business. Wrong!
Picture this. You have a website with 5 articles. Do you really think Google is going to look at that site as an “authority”. Do you think you're really going to beat out anyone in regards to getting traffic?
It is not happening my friend, so quit checking your stats and understand how this business really works. You need content and that doesn't mean 5 articles and expect the sales to start rolling in.
Most people start off targeting the low hanging fruit and then find themselves back to trying to get the thousands of visitors for a specific keyword. I know this, because that's how I was and I still catch myself doing that.
Start off and finish with what you just started with in the first place. If it doesn't rank, who cares, continue on to your next article. Like I tell my boys, “blog on”.
Once you hit a certain amount of articles, you'll start to see that it is getting a lot easier to rank. Then you hit more of the low hanging fruit and soon you'll have 1,000 visitors to your site.
There is really no secret to getting traffic online. For starters, stick with the low hanging fruit and work your way up to those that get more traffic.
Personally, I still target low hanging fruit. Even at that, I still get ranked for keywords that I never even tried to rank for in the first place.
Below is an example of a quick search I did and what a low hanging fruit would look like. It's not the best example but it does the job.
Although it doesn't get much traffic, it is better than nothing. Would you rather write an article and get 0 traffic, because of the thousands of visitors that you were targeting, or would you rather aim at one that gets a few hundred, but also has better chances of being ranked on the first page of Google?
If you don't understand how this “low hanging fruit” thing works, you might want to find another job.
Build Out your Site
Quit trying to get ranked for keywords that you know you're not going to get ranked for. I had that problem and so do many other marketers.
It's something you need to break, or you can just consider yourself another online failure. Build the foundation and then you can open the floodgates to the traffic you never thought you could get.
I'd like to leave you with my infamous quote, so that you can think twice about targeting those highly target keywords.
Slow and steady wins the race, so please leave the almost impossible to rank for keywords alone and get the ones you know you can get traffic for.
Everything will add up my friend, so don't waste your time trying to outrank Wikipedia, because it's not going to happen overnight, although it is very possible.
I hope you have a better understanding of what low hanging fruit really is and know that if you can target this, you can create a full-time business online. Good luck and I wish you the best!
