Is this site even worth joining? This Ibotta review will give you the ins and outs of yet another savings app that claims to save you money.
If you've ever heard of Ibotta, you're probably wondering if can you really earn a rebate on ANY brand of item that you purchase from ANY store.
Will they really pay?
Is this just a scam?
This Ibotta review will answer all the questions you may have so see what this is about before you join something you might end up regretting.
Due to the large (thousands) of rebate apps available for us to use, there's a high chance you could be joining a scam, so lets find out what this is about and if you can actually earn money from using their service.
Price to join: Free
Overall Rating: 1.9/5 stars
Ibotta only allows people from the United States to join and use their app 🙁 So if you can't sign up with them, you might as well leave now, otherwise scroll down to the bottom of this page to see a much better alternative.
The owners of Ibotta claim that their app is better than coupons and this is simply because they are about rewarding their members for shopping at stores.
Basically, users purchase items, confirm their receipts, and then get rewarded for their efforts.
They will rebate 20 cents off every store item that you have purchased.
These include items such as: milk, bread, cheese, apples, veggies, bananas, eggs, tomatoes, pasta, and much more.
And the best part about it? It can literally be any brand. The 20 cents is only minimum as well.
With the more expensive items, you can earn a rebate of up to $3, just from one item!
How Does It All Work?
Okay, so now you know a little bit about the back-end of Ibotta, here's how you can earn money with the app.
Of course, you don't have to follow this method exactly, but it is much easier to scan everything at the supermarket so that you don't have to do it at home.
First and foremost, you have to UNLOCK the ability to use the rebate system, which is is done by completing simple tasks that are available.
When this is done, you can then go shopping.
To earn even more rewards/higher cash rebates, you should purchase the items that they have listed on the app.
Here's the ultimate 3 step guide 😛
As you're doing your shopping, make sure you keep the app up.
Scan the barcodes as you put the items in your cart/trolley.
Pay for your items, get your receipt, unpack your shopping into your car, then upload your receipt to Ibotta.
Keep in mind: There's a 15 second ad you have to watch before you get your rebate (as you scan a barcode).
Essentially, that's how the whole system works.
That's correct. You can have a team of Ibottas! So if you have a bunch of friends that have joined up under you, they will be in your downline and making you money.
Here's how it works: If your referrals earn $20 in a month, and you only earned $10, you'll get a bonus of $4.
The best thing about this typical feature is that the more people that have signed up under you (through your link), and the more money they save, the more bonus/cash rewards you earn as a result.
How Much Can You Earn?
On a normal grocery day, and if you are spending roughly $100-200, you could earn around $3-$6 in return. However, this is a “give or take”, not an exact estimate.
But do keep in mind, the more you shop, the more you earn.
So make sure you scan your items and receipt, even if it's just 1 item.
You know those trips to the supermarket to get 1 milk and 1 bread only?
Yes, verify those purchases as well if you want to make this app worth while.
Who This is For
If you're constantly heading to the nearest convenient store or supermarket even for an item or 2, then you're likely to find this app to be useful for you.
I've seen a lot of users combine this with couponing and save a lot more money from doing so.
Also, if you like the benefits that couponing offers but you are too busy to do it, Ibotta is a great alternative.
What's the very best way to use this app?
Pricing & Purchase Details
The app is completely free to download and use, while it's fully available on iOS and Android as well.
The minimum withdrawal amount is $20.
When you have the minimum amount in your account balance, it's just a matter of clicking the withdraw button.
What I typically like about Ibotta is that they put your earnings in your PayPal account within 5 minutes of clicking “withdraw”!
You can either use PayPal or Venmo, otherwise you can opt for a gift card instead (they offer a variety of different gift cards).
Pros and Cons
- There are no points or “made up” currencies – just straight cash (shows you exactly how much available in your account balance)
- It's a legit saving/rebate app
- Takes a very long time to accumulate a decent amount of money
- There's no potential to make enough money to live off of
- Not available to countries outside of the United States

Overall rating: Ibotta is actually one of the better saving apps on the market so if this is something you are looking to do, I recommend this over the rest.
So is Ibotta a Scam?
Definitely not a scam and one of the better money saving type apps out there.
Similar to Swagbucks, but it's really up to you on which one you prefer.
This is not going to make you insane amounts of money, but at least it's not here to take your money.
Ibotta is legit and will actually pay you.
What I Recommend
Couponing and saving money shopping is a great thing, but the fact that they don't pay much will have a lot of you spending more time using the app rather than making money.
Definitely use the app, but you might want to consider doing something like affiliate marketing if you are looking to make better money online.
Personally, I use a site called the Wealthy Affiliate which is how I learned how to make money online with something I am actually interested in.
Read more here to see what this program is about and see how you can get started on your very own online business.
Other than that, you know exactly what it is you are getting yourself into by joining Ibotta so use it for what it's worth.
Thanks for reading my Ibotta review and hopefully I have given you more than just information.
